Evaluation of design shear strength of intermediate soil for construction of breakwater at Port of Sakai

Popis: The combined method, in which the design shear strength is determined based on the comparison between the unconfined compressive strength and the CU (Consolidated Undrained) triaxial test, called the combined method, was applied in the extension project of the breakwater at the Port of Sakai. The existing breakwater had been constructed on intermediate soil after ground improvement, as the design strength of the ground was determined by the unconfined compressive strength. Based on the design strength determined by the combined method, the breakwater was constructed without any improvement. Hence, it was confirmed that the use of the combined method to determine the strength of intermediate soil is an effective approach for reducing the costs and time of constructing a breakwater.
