Popis: Various nutritional indices with respect to surgical risk were measured in patients with gastric cancer. Thirteen of 413 patients who underwent surgery had postoperative pulmonary complications, 7 had intraperitoneal abscesses and 17 had leakage. Nine of the 413 operations were by-pass operations and 25 were laparotomies. There were correlations between the incidence of pulmonary complications and abscess formation and the preoperative nutritional status, whereas there was no correlation between the development of anastomotic leakage and preoperative nutritional status. The sensitivity and specificity of the ability of each parameter to predict the development of postoperative complications and operative resectability were also assessed. There were significant relationships between the serum albumin and prealbumin levels and the development of postoperative complications. The results of this study show that preoperative nutritional assessment is useful for predicting the patients who may develop postoperative complications, and is also helpful for judging surgical risk.
