It is a popular and widespread opinion that listening to music may help us recover from stress. However, the literature on music and stress recovery presents several questions that are currently unanswered. First, despite popular opinion, it remains unclear to what extent individuals choose to listen to music to recover from stress. Second, it is unknown which songs individuals choose for the purpose of stress recovery, and whether any common audio features exist between different song choices. Finally, it remains ambiguous whether and how audio features relate to both physiological and psychological recovery outcomes. As such, the present study attempts to address these gaps through an exploratory investigation of individuals’ music use following stressful situations. |
