Popis: VOLUME 109, NUMBER 1 managers provide intensive individualized education and medication management by telephone and in the clinic over a period of three to fifteen months. All patients receive a full allergy evaluation, pulmonary function testing and asthma self-management plans. Over the first twelve months since the implementation of the ACMP, KPMCSF has documented a 49% reduction in hospitalizations and a 19% decrease in emergency room visits. Other elements that may have supported this decline in utilization include higher potency steroids and proactive treatment by the primary care providers. We conclude that an ACMP can be an effective mechanism for reducing asthma hospitalizations and emergency room visits. 9 ~ Clinical Competencies in Allergy and Immunology: Results of a V ~ I ; Graduate Survey James T Li*, Doris Stoll§, Susan Swing§, June Smith§ *Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN §Acgme, Chicago, IL The purpose of the study is to survey recent graduates of Allergy and Immunology (A&I) training programs for their perceptions ofA&I competencies. We sent a survey form to 161 physicians who had completed training in A&I within the past 5 years. The survey asked respondents to rate the perceived importance of a topic (important or unimportant), the adequacy of training (adequate or inadequate) and the level of current competency (competent or lack sufficient competency). We received 101 usable completed surveys. The respondents were 44% female/56% male. 57% trained in Internal Medicine, 37% in Pediatrics. Most (91%) spent the majority of their time in direct patient care. Nearly all respondents (99%) stated that they would recommend the specialty of A&I to medical students or other physicians in training, and 91% would recommend the program where they trained to residents interested in A&I. Perceived importance, adequacy of training and current competency were high (>90%) for asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema and drug allergy. Adequacy of training and/or current competency were low ( 90%) for pulmonary function testing, allergy skin testing for food/inhalants, immunotherapy for rhinitis/asthma/stinging insects and drug desensitization. Adequacy of training and/or current competency were low (
