This chapter provides guidance on how to identify and create effective videos, or vodcasts, which students view prior to the flipped learning class period. The chapter begins by identifying websites that offer quality educational videos in a variety of academic disciplines, which the instructor can use for pre-class assignments. The remainder of the chapter discusses research-based practices for creating one’s own videos to be used in the flipped classroom. Ten best practices for creating effective video presentations are discussed, several of which focus on maximizing learning by reducing the cognitive load of the video presentation. Advice regarding video length, lighting, camera placement, and strategies to keep students engaged in the videos is also provided. |
