Popis: | The use of water soluble flux (WSF) in soldering processes of electronics manufacture is desirable from environmental, economic, and technical standpoints. However, ineffective removal of WSF residues in post-solder cleaning procedures may give rise to electrical malfunction or failure due to the chemical activity of WSF residues on various electronic components. In the present work, electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA) has been used to detect WSF residues in the surface region of printed wiring boards (PWBs). This has been accomplished by examining PWB samples exposed to WSF, a soldering process, and a post-solder cleaning procedure. The successful ESCA detection of WSF residues provides a direct means of evaluating the effectiveness of post-solder cleaning procedures used to remove undesirable WSF residues. |
