Chapter one provides an introduction to solid-phase synthesis techniques including an account of the development and integration of solid-supported reagents within multistep synthesis as a background to the project. Chapter two introduces the epothilone natural products including an explanation of the biological properties possessed by these molecules. Chapter three presents a review of previous total syntheses of the natural epothilones. Chapter four describes the results and discussion for a new total synthesis of epothilone C that applied immobilized reagents and scavengers. Chapter five provides a formal report of the experimental procedures for chapter four.
