Popis:	SYNOPSIS Some important forerunners of present-day micrometers are described. Special attention is given to the expounders of each of these early devices and the practicability of the devices themselves. A brief description is given of a rare micrometer, made by John Cuff in the early eighteenth century, and now in the author's possession.
