Popis: An interfacial debonding process and a debonding criterion, taking into account the distribution of thermally-induced stress, of SiC fiber-reinforced glass matrix composites in a thin specimen pushout test have been examined both experimentally and by FEA. The interfacial fracture process during the pushout was determined by in situ observation and AE event results. The interfacial debonding initiated near the pushing surface of the specimen and proceeded spontaneously in unit length approximately 3R f . The initiation of debonding caused rapid cracking at the interface at an applied load of 1.5–2.0 N. This debonding load was independent of specimen thickness. Comparison with FEA results indicates that the interfacial debonding initiated when the peak shear stress near the pushing surface of the specimen reached a critical value. The peak shear stress was represented as a function of the applied load during the pushout test, and experimental debonding load as a critical interfacial shear stress of the composites revealed its value to be 85–95 MPa. The FEA results showed that the thermally-induced shear stress played an important role in interfacial debonding. The effect of thermally-induced stress on debonding events of the pushout, pushin and pullout test was discussed.
