Erectile dysfunction has been known since ancient times. Currently, the prevalence of this disorder is high, affecting approximately 20% of Spanish men aged 25 to 70 years old. The possibility of receiving a penile prosthesis should be offered to patients with disorders refractory to available treatments. Although there is a wide variety of these materials, they can be divided into two main groups: flexible or malleable prostheses and hydraulic or inflatable devices. The choice of one or other type depends on the advantages and disadvantages of each and the type of patient in whom the device will be implanted. Penile implants are an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction and occupy an important place in the therapeutic arsenal. |
