Building owners are facing the challenge to modernise their old heating systems in environmentally friendly ways. In Germany, the buildings heating regulation defines the phase‐out of heating oil based systems. This raises the question how exactly to modernise existing systems in a climate‐friendly and cost‐efficient way. We introduce different technological options and calculate their installation and operation costs for individual houses. We do so independently of existing subsidies. We look at small CHP, heat pumps, wood and pellet boilers, district heating installment as well as synthetic gas produced with green electricity. Further effects from insulation are calculated. As a result, we show that several proven technological pathways to reduce carbon emissions as well as operating costs exist. Several maesures repay in less than a decade even without public subsidies. |
