Dynamics of α-β transition in NaH3(SeO3)2: Brillouin scattering study

Popis: We have measured the Brillouin spectra of NaH3(SeO3)2 in the α, β and 7 phase. According to dielectric and nmr data we suggest that the αβ transition is an improper ferroelectric one, the soft mode being at the Z (001/2) point of the Brillouin zone. The resulting thermodynamic theory explains the discontinuity of the elastic constants around α-β transition point but not the softening of the c55 elastic constant in the α phase which results from the fluctuations of the order parameter.
