Popis: Fatherhood is a subject discussed more and more often by contemporary researchers and theorists. The importance of the father in all areas of child development, including the development of children with disabilities, is emphasized. The research presented in this article is devoted to a special kind of fatherhood – that is being the father of a child with profound intellectual disability. The article presents an ethnographic study showing fathers’ behaviors, actions, reactions, and interactions focused on the process of care and education for children and youth in rehabilitation and education groups in special settings. The collected material placed in a social context was analyzed, discussed and compared with other researchers' findings. The result was middle-range theory relating to the fathers' care-providing skills, involvement in upbringing, and task-oriented coping despite the stress and negative emotions they experience in their parenthood.
