It has long been known, at least since the work of Gafner and Goldmann1, that an elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) produces characteristic defects in the visual field, similar to those which are caused by certain disorders in the visual pathway. In the past 20 years many studies have been made on the relationship between ERG and IOP elevation2–6). These reports showed a decrease in amplitude of the ERG with a stepwise elevation of the IOP, but the ERG does not reflect the function of the ganglion cells and their dendrites. |
