Popis: | A laboratory study of aluminum oxide water vapor sensors has been made to determine whether this type of sensor is suitable for measuring the concentration of water vapor in the stratosphere aboard a balloon-borne probe. The stationary afterglow facility at the Ballistic Research Laboratories was utilized to test the time response of the sensor at room temperature (296°K) and under static conditions (no gas flow). The laboratory results indicate response times of the order of hours for water vapor pressures of a few mtorr (dew-frost point of ∼−70°C). |
