The advantages of using heterogeneous photocatalysis for removing organic substances from water are considered. The methods for producing titanium (IV) oxide and its use are presented. The mechanism of photocatalysis on titanium oxide surface and the ways to improve the photoactivity are discussed. Samples of titanium (IV) oxide from various precursors under different hydrolysis conditions were synthesized. It is shown that the use of various precursors and modifiers allows to obtain catalysts with diverse physical and chemical characteristics. Obtained samples possessed high photoactivity toward dyes of anionic and cationic types. It is revealed that the modification of titanium (IV) oxide by cadmium sulfide leads to the reduction of the bandgap width. |
