Popis: | HEN eggs containing more than one yolk frequently have been described in the hope that this rather common abnormal functioning of the reproductive organs might throw some light on the normal mechanism of egg formation. Most of these publications are almost entirely descriptive, but Curtis (1914 and 1915) has pointed out some of the possible physiological causes of the formation of eggs with double or triple yolks. According to Curtis, double yolked eggs may result when: (1) an ovum which is ovulated at the regular time remains in the body cavity and is picked up by the oviduct on the next day, at about the same time as the ovum released on that day; and (2) two ova are released from the ovary at about the same time and one overtakes the other in the oviduct before the formation of the shell membranes.
