Popis: Recording work over the last decade has revealed a category of marks on timbers which are neither assembly marks nor setting out lines. This paper puts forward the theory that these marks fall into two types: the first originates from the pre-framing stage and is used in the hewing process, while the second relates to the setting out and levelling of a timber-framed structure at the framing stage.
