Popis: The large conductive paths and heat capacities of temperature probe supports in internal mixers induce inaccuracies in temperature measurement. If the axial temperature profile along a support is recorded, a measurement correction accounting for the thermal behaviour of the support is possible. This paper contains experimental verification of two recently reported inverse methods to improve performance. Laboratory measurements confirm that both methods work well, provided that the film heat transfer coefficient does not exceed 500W.m−2. K−1. In industrial trials, the methods show that it is possible to reduce the error of temperature measurement by up to 18 per cent of the range of temperature over the mixing process of rubber compounds. Following the two sets of trials described in this paper, a procedure is proposed for selecting the most appropriate algorithm.
