Popis: | The electronic spectra of a merocyanine dye in a polar solvent have been studied at different temperatures. Absence of excitation wavelength dependence at room temprature in a fluid medium is due to orientational and translational relaxation of the “solvent-cage”. For the rigid solution, lifetimes of various “solute-solvent conformations” are larger than the excited-state lifetime; hence excitation-wavelength dependent fluorescence occurs. |
