Popis: This chapter describes the current knowledge regarding the physiological basis of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast that is used in functional MRI and discusses methodological issues including selection of the experimental paradigm, processing the data, and advanced statistical methods. The second part of the chapter describes some functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) results focusing on the visual system and on the process of reading, discusses the challenges of translating fMRI to clinical applications, and describes the current status of fMRI in the clinic. This chapter concludes with a brief review of some promising potential implementations of fMRI.
