Ghana primarily faces challenge of waste generation and disposal as it constitutes great chunk of government expenditure in the budget allocation. Supply chain strategy for waste management is a way public and private organisations adopt managing waste generated within the communities. The consequences of uncontrolled waste leads to unpleasant odour emitted to the environment, health risk from breeding mosquitoes, communicable diseases and seepage contaminating underground water. The research sought to identify and analyse the supply chain in the waste management. Random sampling technique was employed in the study. Semi-structured questionnaires and interview guides were used to obtain data from the field. Content analysis was also employed in the study. Social Science Statistical Package (SPSS 19) was used for data analyses. It was found that wastes collected were deposited at an engineered landfill sites. Poor access road network and frequent vehicle breakdown of the company, poor attitude towards waste disposal and ineffective public education on waste management were problems for waste management. It is recommended that intensive public education for attitudinal change on waste management could solve many problems of waste management in the country. |
