Popis: Epithelia of the gastrointestinal tract both synthesize and secrete surfactant-like materials. Like the pulmonary surfactant, these materials contain not only phospholipids, but also surfactant apoproteins, regarded until recently as specific products of the bronchoalveolar epithelium. Presented here are the various roles, most of them still speculative, of these phospholipids-containing products in the gastro-intestinal tract.
