Popis: This article: (1) charts the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's (UMDNJ) University Libraries participation in a statewide academic library consortium with a review of benefits and cost-savings in the licensing of electronic content over the past five years; (2) discusses the unique perspective of the health sciences mixed with those of the general academic library consortium, the Virtual Academic Library Environment (VALE) ; (3) discusses how the group licensing model used in VALE assisted member hospital libraries of the Health Sciences Libraries Association of New Jersey (HSLANJ) to acquire additional electronic resources by leveraging the substantial investments made by UMDNJ and taking a leadership role in the negotiations to obtain optimal licensing terms; (4) discusses how VALE expanded, and in some cases, introduced, electronic full-text resources with both onsite and remote access to member hospitals ranging in size and status; and (5) documents the transfer and expansion of skills used in an academic group licensing model to a statewide organization consisting primarily of hospital libraries.
