The 'Material Effectiveness Function' Approach to SPACE-R Shield Optimization

Popis:	The shield optimization code SWAN was modified to calculate material Weight Effectiveness Functions (WEFs) and Equal Weight Replacement Effectiveness Functions (EWREFs). These WEFs and EWREFs provide a very useful guide to the search of design modifications which will minimize the shield mass. The application of the effectiveness functions and of SWAN is illustrated by applying them to the SPACE‐R nuclear power system.
