Popis: The paper presents a simple computer-aided design approach for designing FIR digital filters. The design problem is formulated as a quadratic programming problem with quadratic constraint. Two design methods are considered. One method involves minimizing the mean-square error between a desired response and the filter response over a passband subject to a mean-square stopband constraint. The other method involves minimizing the mean-square value of the filter response in the stopband subject to a mean-square error constraint over the passband. Numerical techniques based on matrix factorization are proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Relationship of the approach with the eigenfilter method is established. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the performance achievable. >
