Popis: Surface water sources have become highly contaminated due to the presence of undesirable substances making it unfit for consumption and other uses. The concentration of impurities can be reduced by several methods. Membrane technology is the latest and the most effective one. In this paper, glutaraldehyde-grafted chitosan-PVA polymer composite membrane has been synthesized and characterized. Solution casting method has been used to synthesize the membrane. PVA is dissolved in distilled water, and then chitosan powder is added to the solution. Membrane is fabricated and then grafted with glutaraldehyde. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the developed composite membrane in terms of morphology and performance. Water optic studies were carried out to study the pore size of membrane. This paper is aimed at developing a simple water filtration unit using adsorbents like coarse aggregate, activated charcoal sand, and composite membrane.
