Popis: | The effect of remelting and casting on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-12Si-3Mg/3 graphite composites is investigated. The composite was either remelted fours times or isothermally held at the casting temperature followed by casting with and without degassing using a stream of nitrogen gas. It was observed that the composites can be remelted and cast two times or held isothermally around 993 K for 3 to 4 h without affecting the mechanical properties. Remelting reduced the agglomeration of graphite particles but increased the gas entrapment and inclusion levels. At contact time exceeding about 4 h with molten Al, reaction zones were seen around the particles. The degassing had no effect on the mechanical properties. (orig.) |
