Popis: International migration has become a crucial issue on the political agenda around the world. Yet it is still difficult to define the phenomenon of irregular migration precisely and to determine which immigrants exactly fall within this definition. Therefore, this chapter will discuss the issue of defining irregular migration. Moreover, it will provide various explanations for irregular migration and why it is so difficult to eradicate it in democratic states with market economies. We will identify six main reasons for the presence of irregular migrants in receiving countries, concluding that irregular migration mirrors several societal contradictions rather than being an effect of external pressure.
