Popis: Summary form only given. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency was created by President Eisenhower in 1958 to ensure technological superiority for US military forces by fostering innovation and pursuing high-payoff, frequently high-risk projects. A short list of the agency's more notable successes include the Saturn V engines, the F-117 stealth fighter, precision guided munitions (PGMs), directed energy, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and the Internet to name a few. This paper briefly reviews some of DARPA's past successes, and investigate the agency's new directions in view of a changing national and international environment.
