Popis: Experimental design techniques are used in this work to minimize the number of computer runs required to test a specific spacecraft control algorithm. These techniques save valuable computer simulation time and also produce a regression equation that approximately relates the inputs (assumed error sources) to the output (the control cost over a period of time). When the input data is coded appropriately, the relative sensitivity of the output to the various inputs can then be judged by the relative magnitude of the coefficients in the computed regression equation. This study is concerned with a spacecraft in orbit near libration (Lagrange) point L1 in the Sun- Earth system. In this orbit, the spacecraft remains between the Sun and the Earth and serves as an excellent platform for research relating to the numerous solar effects on the terrestrial environment. Station-keeping using a specified control algorithm is, however, required for this particular type of (unstable) orbit. For a given control routine, error sources, such as tracking errors, solar radiation pressure variations, and planetary mass uncertainties, will have an impact on the station-keeping costs.
