High tension roll separation of rutile and zircon has been intensively investigated in the laboratory and characterised in operating industrial plant. A newly developed laboratory separator was used. This machine allowed accurate control of a wide range of variables. The corona electrode system has been investigated experimentally and analysed theoretically. Two types of mathematical models of high tension roll separation have been developed:-(1) a complex, wide range, largely theoretical model which includes electrode system interactions and particle interactions. This model has been used to simulate the laboratory separator.(2) simple, empirical and semi-empirical models. These models have been developed from analysis of laboratory and industrial data. Simple control systems have been investigated with these models.Several techniques for analysis of beach sand, heavy mineral concentrates have been developed or refined.Techniques for statistical analysis of material balance type problems related to industrial plant data have also been refined. |
