Thermal properties and FTIR spectra of K2O/Na2O iron borophosphate glasses

Popis: Thermal properties and structure of iron borophosphate glasses containing Na 2 O and/or K 2 O have been investigated in this paper. A series of glasses of the general compositions x K 2 O (20- x )Na 2 O 28.8Fe 2 O 3 8B 2 O 3 43.2P 2 O 5 , with x = 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mol%, prepared by melt quenching method. The thermal stability and structure of as-prepared glasses was characterized by DTA and FTIR spectra, respectively. The results show that the thermal properties of sodium iron borophosphate glasses can be improved through the replacement of Na 2 O by appropriate quantity of K 2 O. FTIR data suggest that the substitution of K 2 O for Na 2 O in the 20Na 2 O 28.8Fe 2 O 3 8B 2 O 3 43.2P 2 O 5 glass does not produce fundamental changes in the structure of borophosphate network. But about 10 mol% K 2 O’s substitution leads to a significant decrease of possible self-connection among boron-oxygen groups, which enhance the structure stability of sodium iron borophosphate glass, and thus the enhanced thermal stability were obtained.
