Popis: 1. 1. Hydrophobic proteins were extracted from muscles of the locust ( Shistocerca gregaria ) using two different procedures. 2. 2. A detergent-solubilized protein extract showed high affinity binding for glutamate; glutamine and aspartate did not show such binding characteristics. 3. 3. Fractionation of the proteolipids of the muscles resulted in the separation of two proteins, both showing specific binding for glutamate. 4. 4. These hydrophobic proteins may constitute part of the glutamate receptor at the insect neuromuscular junction.
