Popis: | Aim of the studyThe overall purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between perceived social support and locus and control sub-scales and illness perception in MI patients.Subject or material and methods241 consecutive MI patients participated in this study in 2016-17. Comprehensive questionnaires along with interview were used to collect demographic and clinical information of participants during the first week of hospitalization. Four months later, the information on perceived social support, perceived locus of control subscales, and illness perception of participants was collected at their house. The data was analyzed by structural equation modeling to verify the interrelationships between variables.ResultsThe mean of participants’ age was 54.53 (SD= 9.76) years. The sample consisted of 83% males. Those with better illness perception regarding MI were more prone to be diagnosed as diabetic (p=0.005) and/or may have had better perceived social support (pDiscussionDiscussion: The findings of this study showed that among MI patients there is a significant relationship between demographic and clinical characteristics, perceived social support, perceived locus of control sub-scales and illness perception.ConclusionsThe findings of the current study provided an overview of the relationship existed between perceived social support and locus of control and illness perception in myocardial infarction patients. This could help care teams to provide better post MI care in the course of the disease by considering these important psychological factors. |
