Popis: An electron beam technique is described for the study of the thermodynamic properties of materials at extremely high temperatures. This technique, a modification of the Langmuir method, was then used to measure the evaporation rates and vapor pressures of molten carbides of uranium, tungsten, niobium, zirconium, tantalum, vanadium, and titanium. The evaporating species from each of these carbides were identified by chemical analysis and by metallographic examination. (auth)
