Popis: Rational suicide does not always occur in the context of mental illness, irrationality, or diminished capacity, thus conducting suicide risk assessments can be challenging for mental health professionals. This chapter provides an overview of psychological issues that may play a role in expressions of rational suicide. It expands upon traditional guidelines for suicide risk assessment and reviews empirically supported approaches to complex suicide risk assessment. Psycholegal issues, like decisional capacity, are also reviewed. Finally, the chapter reviews additional constructs, frequently assessed in health psychology, specifically psycho-oncology, that may enrich suicide risk assessments and aid in case conceptualization and intervention planning.
