Perceptions of Students about the Values of Respect and Scientific in Social Studies: Metaphor Analysis

Popis: Article History: Received 23.12.2015 Received in revised form 28.03.2016 Accepted 04.04.2016 Available online 10.07.2016 This study is aimed to identify the metaphors that primary school students used their perceptions in description for respect and the scientific value.In data collection and the interpretation process were used phenomenology design is one of the qualitative research methods. In the first semester of 20142015 academic year was made application with 4. grade students in 5 primary education and 5, 6 and 7. grade students in 5 secondary school in Kirsehir. This study were included activity papers obtained from 207 girls and 195 boys a total of 402 student. In the process of collecting data was used "The Metaphor Survey of Students for Respect and Scientific Value" which was developed by researchers based on releated research Activity papers of 371 students involved in the study were listed according to the sequence number with their metaphors and reasons. In this study, a total of 31 application form which eliminated because not checked 5 activity papers from and because does not contain the complete any metaphor 26 of them were excluded from the research. 6 different conceptual categories for scientific and 4 different conceptual categories for respect were created by students. Students made up the most eye metaphor (56 metaphor, 15.7 %) regarding the value of respect. Students also made up the most brain metaphor (28 metaphor, 9.15 %) regarding the value of scientific. When examined metaphors developed by students for the scientific value was observed the abstract metaphors such as “curiosity, diligence, thought, patience” which includes in metaphors category "for being characteristic" mostly. © 2016 IOJES.
