BHC DUSTING TO CONTROL INSECT PESTS IN PEANUT PLANTINGS SUMMARY Peanut plantings in the State of Sao Paulo are attacked by a number of insect pests, especially thrips. These insects not only cause direct damage to the plants, but also favor the incidence of virus and fungus diseases. In 1951 and 1952, attempts to control insects in peanut plantings by dusting with 1% BHC were made at the "Estacao Experimental de Ribeirao Preto". Three applications were made. Treated plots of the variety "Roxo" yielded an average of 66 per cent more than the controls ; for the variety "Tatu" the yield increase due to the treatment was 120 per cent. |
