The thiolate complexes CpNi(SR)(PPh 3 ) ( 1 ), (Cp = η 5 -C 5 H 5 , R =1cr; C 6 H 5 and C 6 H 4 Me-4 were prepared by the reaction of CpNi(PPh 3 ) (X =1cr; Cl, Br, or I) with HSC 6 H 5 and HSC 6 H 4 Me-4 respectively, in the presence of Et 3 N. The structure of CpNi(SC 6 H 5 )(PPh 3 ) ( 1a ) was determined by X-ray crystallography. The reaction of CpNiX(PPh 3 ) with the dithiols, toluene-dithiol and HS(CH 2 ) x SH ( x = 2, 3) resulted in the loss of PPh 3 and the formation of complexes of general formula CpNi(HS 2 R′) (R′=1cr; C 6 H 3 Me-4) ( 2a ) or R′ =1cr; (CH 2 ) x where x = 2, 3 ( 2b and 2c ). However, when butanedithiol was used in the same reaction the product was CpNi{S(CH 2 ) 4 SH}(PPh 3 ) ( 1c ). |
