Popis: The USSR should cease importing periclase powder. The Magnezit Combine, producing periclase powder, will not be able, within the near future, to increase its capacity to the required level. Increasing the output of periclase powder on the basis of the reserve raw-material resources for traditional materials requires substantial capital investment, and will take a long time. An analysis of the various ways of supplying the refractories industry with raw materials on the basis of non-traditional sources showed that the most economical and most rapid in implementation is the reprocessing of industrial effluent from the Perekopsk-Armyansk region of the Crimea to obtain more than 400,000 tonnes of synthetic magnesia, containing 92–97% basic substance. To finance the construction of an enterprise for treating effluent from chemical production, it is desirable to set up an action committee of interested enterprises and authorities. It is desirable to commission the All-Union Institute of Refractories and the Crimean Production Association “Iodobrom”, with the participation of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Refractories, to produce a planning and scientific program for an enterprise to produce magnesia from industrial effluent.
