Popis: This paper presents an efficient PSO-algorithm-based approach to design arbitrary focal distance (AFD) reflectarrays. The approach is based on the array factor formulation, which can manage both infinite and finite focal distances, and any kinds of sources and polarizations. It helps reducing the design time and complexity of this kind of electromagnetic problem. An optimized reflectarray is designed by considering a mushroom-type structure with delay lines as the unit cell. Theoretical results compare well with full-wave simulations.
