This paper presents a principle for the adjustment of an AC welding arc current to improve electromagnetic compatibility of a welding unit and supply network To implement the proposed principle, we have developed a power circuit diagram of a thyristor welding power source and obtained a mathematical description of the diagram at the instantaneous level based on differential equations. A computer model was created to study welding arc current waveforms. The computer simulations were performed to evaluate higher harmonics and a current distortion factor for different power source diagrams when the current is adjusted by thyristor groups. The obtained research results showed a decrease in the distortion of the current waveforms when it is adjusted by parallel thyristor-reactor groups providing that a required adjustment range is observed. |
