The depth of penetration by the fragments of Comet SL9 into Jupiter's atmosphere

Popis: Assuming the mass of the fragments to be 10 12 , 10 13 , 10 14 kg and the density to be 3.0, 1.0, 0.8, 0.5, 0.2 g cm −3 , we calculate that the fragments can penetrate the ammonia cloud layer and explode at about the 1 bar level. This result agrees with the result by simulation of Ref. [1].
