Popis: Tar and nicotine yields of commercial cigarettes vary widely. The lowered yields are achieved by the blend of tobacco, filter size, and above all by the porosity of cigarette paper and perforated filters (US Public Health Service 1981). By these technological changes it is possible to reduce the yields of mainstream smoke measured in laboratory conditions by a smoking machine. However, smokers may not behave like machines in a real smoking situation. They may unconsciously eliminate the desired effect of diluted smoke in ventilated cigarettes by changing their smoking style. In this brand-switching study the daily puffing behavior was investigated and nicotine exposure was measured in habitual smokers.
