Popis: The theoretical and experimental work of several investigators in rotor-bearing stability is summarized. Incompressible fluid-film bearings under laminar and turbulent flow conditions and compressible fluid-film bearings of the self-acting and externally pressurized type under laminar flow conditions are described. Design charts are given for calculation of the threshold of instability under laminar and turbulent, compressible and incompressible flow conditions. The effect of rotor flexibility and non-linear effects are discussed. In addition, the author makes several recommendations for further studies.
