In the spring of 1969 the authors obtained a number of specimens of the Brachiopod Terebratulina retusa. L. while dredging for marine specimens off the west coast of Scotland. It was found that this species of Brachiopod could be kept alive for a number of weeks under aquarium conditions, apparently healthy and performing several activities connected with feeding. These activities are described, and some conclusions drawn as to their significance. Some suggestions are also made on physico-chemical stimulation of the feeding cycle and its possible significance with regard to the microscopic structure of the shell in the terebratulids. |
