Popis: Facial nerve paralysis is a common clinical problem that involves the paralysis of any facial nerve-innervated structures. It is primarily motor in nature, controlling the muscles of facial expression. It also contains sensory fibres that control salivation and function in the conveyance of taste sensation from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue. There are three types of facial nerve lesions: supranuclear, nuclear, and infranuclear. Supranuclear facial nerve lesions can be caused by a variety of factors, including haemorrhage and infarct.
