Popis: This chapter discusses the development of screen-printed biosensors for process monitoring. The fabrication of screen-printed biosensors as one-shot devices, such as blood glucose sensors, is well known and companies have already commercialized this technology. The success of these devices has its origin in the high production efficiency, since screen printing enables mass production at a relatively low level of investment costs. These types of biosensors are made for one-shot measurement, and are not applicable to continuous process monitoring. A high operational lifetime of the sensor is of utmost importance for process monitoring. This is not only determined by the stability of the enzyme, but also by the firmness of the immobilization matrix, because the sensor has to be in contact with the liquid phase for several days. This contribution describes the development and production of water stable enzyme electrodes made by screen printing and its incorporation into flow-injection analyzers. The systems showed excellent stability and a sufficient linear response to be used for continuous process monitoring.
