An important problem in EMC analysis is to determine the coupling of an electromagnetic field into a shielded cable. Using transmission line analysis (TLA) the induced disturbance voltage inside the cable is easily calculated out of the current distribution on its shield. This current distribution depends on the incident electromagnetic field and is efficiently determined by the method of moments (MoM). Unfortunately, the usage of MoM has certain restrictions which are due to the discretisation of the computed model. The need for storage and calculation time increases with the size of the arrangement which has to be examined. Extending MoM with uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD) makes it possible to solve scattering problems which are too large and too complex for plain MoM. Combining the three approaches-TLA, MoM and UTD-allows to calculate the disturbance voltage inside a shielded cable which is part of a complex scattering structure. |
